• No you don’t need a iPhone but what you are going to need is a iCloud account

• It should work with your ipad with no problems wouldn’t recommend other phones unless you wanna airplay videos

• No you don’t need an iPhone as long as you have an apple device like your iPad you should be able to set up the Apple TV.
