Does Apple TV 4K work on TV's that don't have 4K? null

Yes, you can use this unit on a TV that is not 4K.

We were told that it would work, but it doesn’t make sense to spend the extra money. It will work, but not in 4K. Your picture quality is only as good as the TV you are watching.

Yes it will. When you plug it in, the Apple TV will automatically recognize the format your tv can operate in and it will ask you if you want to use that format or switch it. If you know your TV and know what your doing somewhat, you can test all of them or you can go with Apple TV suggest.
