• New MacBooks are not made it thunderbolt 2 ports, therefore, you would need to purchase this one if you had a new MacBook.

• Thunderbolt adapter is common on recent MacBooks, where usb-c is used on the latest 2017 MacBook pro for example. Try to find out which type of port you have, because they do not work without the matching port.
