As long as your phone and the gps watch are within Bluetooth connectivity, the watch will operate as your phone and allow sending and receiving phone calls. It will the same as the cellular watch.

If you plan to not have your phone nearby, like going jogging or working out, then you would need to buy the cellular version & add it to your phone plan. The cost is generally $10 a month on most carriers.

The gps version connects to your mobile phone that you already have. I wondered about this too. I already have an iPhone so I bought the GPS version.
