Bands are interchangeable if your series 3 is the same case size as the new series 4. 38mm matches up with the 40mm, 42mm matches up with 44m. The new watches are the same length and width of the older watches, but are thinner because of the reduction of the bezel which allows for the screens to be bigger

The all new S4 series watch has an all new size being 40mm and 44mm vs. the old series of 38mm and 42mm btw. I'm not so sure that they are interchangeable .
