I think you may be able to do this. However it may be only on a month to month basis at that point since Apple may not wish to have customers pay for an old device over a longer period of time.

The Apple worker at the store when I bought my computer said you could.

I think you can renew, just ask bestbuy before your expiration date and they will be happy to help you.
