Yes, there is a mode in which you can assign one of the inputs as a direct pass through mode making this just a stand alone amp.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes. Your AVR should have analog preouts and you'd run interconnects/RCAs from the output into an open input on the SA20, like Aux. If your AVR has optical/toslink digital output, this would produce even better sound quality, so you're using the DAC in the Arcam. Simply connect to one of the unused digital optical inputs on the SA20. Check out the 'Processor Mode' settings in the Arcam SA20 owner's manual, and be sure to refer to the owner's manual of the AVR to ensure it's configured correctly.
