Yes, the essential camera's will notify you on your phone when motion triggers the recording. You will have a recording of this on the cloud. If you would like to take still photographs it is possible if you're quick enough but honestly with my experience taking pictures isn't a priority when someone is in your house. You know already that you have a recording going, you can't get better angles, and you're watching what they are doing. You can download the recording and take stills from it if you'd like.
