• The Arlo xl spotlight does not have to be on to work. You can turn it off in settings. The camera records when motin activates it. You can also manually record if you see something. You can monitor remotely from your app on your phone.

• Only records when it senses movement or when you go on app you can watch it live. Still works great without spotlight

• Once the camera detects motion it starts recording and records for a few seconds after it no longer detects motion. It does not record continuously. The light only comes on at night when it is recording.
