If you have an outlet next to the camera (or close enough to plug it in) you wont have to un mount it. But if you dont then yes. I've had my cameras 6 days and I already have 3 dead batteries from fully charged. I just charged mine over night so notnsure how long it takes to charge

The battery life is about 2months depending on how much motion it’s picking up every time someone passes by. It also has be taken off in order to charge the batteries unless you have a separate dock that charges the batteries alone.
