• Yes, this item will sit upright on its own without being mounted if placed on a flat level surface.

• Yes, straight up and sideways, it is greatly versatile ! The mounting kit is so simple compared to all others, because of the magnet on both the camera and mount, mount only uses one screw/ nail.
