There is no actual storage or drive. You either pay a fee and have the data stored in the cloud, or find one with an on board SD card.

To answer your other question, if you don't pay for their monitoring, I believe you can view things on your phone, but if I remember correctly, it doesn't tell you what type of event it is (motion, person, vehicle, package), plus it sends an alert for all alert types regardless of what events you choose in setup. It doesn't filter them.
