• CALL COMCAST THEY WILL TELL U. THEY HVE A LIST OF ALL MODEMS .THEY WILL BE ABLE 2 TELL U RIGHT AWAY, THEY WILL ALSO HELP U SET THE MODEM UP OVER THE PHONE. VERY EASY SET UP.

• No. Comcast builds the phone support into their modem as this is a proprietary standard. However, you can use phones over the internet in other ways as well. There are even products like "magic jack" that very inexpensively do this--not using Comcast as the phone provider (who gives you the phone number.) Skype, etc., do the same thing as an app on your computer or "device" instead of a standalone box, etc.
