Any standard surge protector should to the job. In reality you may want to filter the cable feed, but that would normally result in degraded performance. My real recommendation is to use a UPS for uninterrupted power. I have most computer equipment always protected by a UPS, except for laser printers. It's very important to make sure the circuit is properly grounded so it absorbs any surges.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Probably requires a lot. I had the previous version of this modem plugged into my battery back-up. The back-up has 8 outlets, but only 6 had surge protection. Since the modem was the lowest cost item to be plugged in, and the most easily replaced (compared to the computer, external drives, etc.) it was plugged into the non protected outlet. We had a serious power surge during a thunderstorm, and the modem was damaged. We confirmed that it was not the power pack, and a number of other items in the house were destroyed by the surge. And sadly, some other items connected to surge protectors were damaged so not sure if the modem would have survived anyway.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You dont have to have a surge protector although I would suggest it. But a good one that your pocket can afford.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Just your basic Surge protector is needed. Also depends on where you are located and the power that is in your location.

Please try again later. As an IT guy in TX that deals with a lot of power related issues, I would suggest using a UPS (battery backup), If you have power outages and surges getting a UPS that has AVR (Auto Voltage Regulation) will keep your modem running well even in power loss situations. I bought a APC BR1500G that shows the power load and voltages on the LCD screen. My cable modem and router will last ~30-45 minutes after power has failed. Surge protectors are more a one-time lightning strike type fuse. A UPS will act similar to a water filter for your power to those devices. If the power even flickers slightly using a surge protector you'll be waiting for the cable modem to boot back up and be online again. Also, with the UPS I recommended remember to take your smart phone and pull up the same model on Amazon for a price match. Typically it'll save $20-30 and you can get the satisfaction of having it the same day.
I would recommend:
