how does this compare to a Chromebook for school null

I prefer it over a chromebook actually. I have the option to download programs and have the Office suite on the actual computer. I specifically did not want to use the web app versions, so this works great

Both the laptop and a Chromebook will meet the computing needs for school work besides having different operating system, the laptop having a Windows 10 OS and the Chromebook with a Chrome OS.
