I'm currently typing this answer on this laptop. Purchased on October 25th. Asus' website doesn't specify if it's IPS or not. It just says it's an "Anti-Glare Panel 72% NTSC with 178˚ wide-viewing angle display". I can say that the viewing angle part is true and that it's very bright and colors are vibrant. The refresh rate is 120hz or 60hz. It defaults to 120hz out of the box and man is it smooth. Overall I'm happy with the purchase. Do keep in mind that the fans can get pretty loud when gaming but I expected that from a thin gaming laptop. It's the only con I can think of really but it's not a problem.
