I answered this question already, but I have upgraded my second unit and have more info to report. I removed the motherboard to add an 8GB Crucial SODIMM to upgrade the memory to 16GB. I also added a 2.5" Samsung 1TB SSD into the empty SATA port. I reassembled the unit and powered up. Everything worked great, but only when the AC adapter was plugged in. If I unplugged it, the screen started flickering, making the laptop unusable. I reopened the unit and removed the original m.2 SSD, and again reassembled. The flickering problem is now gone when running on battery. I guess the battery is not strong enough to power the extra memory and two SSD's simultaneously. My other unit has two SSD's, but no added memory, and it also has no problems when running on battery. So, when upgrading this laptop, you will only be able to use one SSD if you upgrade your RAM.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I just bought two of these in the past month when they were on sale. I knew they had an M.2 slot and a SATA slot, but wasn't sure which was populated, or whether they could be used simultaneously. I was pleasantly surprised when I found that the installed 128GB SSD was a SanDisk drive installed in the M.2 slot (which is pretty hard to get to; it's under the motherboard with the memory). I added a 525GB Micron SSD to the SATA slot, and both drives are now accessible. I was able to clone the original drive to the new drive, and in the BIOS, set the new drive as the boot drive. I will open the other laptop in the next week, and will remove the motherboard to add memory to that one as well.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Q405UA-BI5T7 comes with a single bay for a SATA drive, The 128GB SSD needs to be removed in order to upgrade it.
