PCIE 3.0 The slower 5GT/s would only effect heavy video rendering or editing. Since there is only one slot for GPU the higher the speed of the card the higher the benefit. No support for NVME or optane. This is a BUSINESS no frills chipset but still usable in builds like this for gaming. We know the 1151 socket is limited to Skylake or Kaby Lake. Absence of a straight, quotable source answer from Asus or BestBuy as to BIOS updates (at least not in current Q&A) limits choice to Skylake. Processor speed & two more threads are main benefits of upgrading the processor to an i7.
