I purchased this item about a month ago because I was on the opposite end of the house and couldn't stay connected to the wifi, I now have a stronger signal than ever before. I would assume that this device would work for her laptop if can connect to the mobile hot spot. My best advice would be to ask tech support before buying it, they helped me with purchasing it and it worked great for my needs.
