“Will there ever be a way to change settings and profiles on the actual Xbox and/or a mobile app, or will it always be PC only? Need to know if I should just return this or wait for an app.”

You can set up profiles on a pc , and then swap between profiles on the controller without a computer. And you can always remap paddles by hitting pair+Y on the controller. But in order to use these functions you have to have access to a computer to update it. I don't have a pc I used a friend's to update the controller. If you don't got a way to update the controller do NOT buy it. It has a weird deadzone and is unresponsive until it's updated via pc.
