“Can the 2.5GB Port that is on this router be used as another 1GB Extra port so say if you need to connect 5 wired devices instead of 4, like is the 2.5GB port Backwards compatible to 1GB etc. ? Also could You use the 2.5GB port connect it to a switch?”

Yes I have my fire tv connected to it and works with no problems. I would think you could add a switch to it.

Please try again later.it should be used to connect to a switch if you need more ports. since most people don't have nor can they afford 10GB switches my thought is you have a 1 GB switch in which case this will use the full bandwidth that the switch is capable of using. the answer saying backwards compatible is odd since pretty much all network stuff that uses rj45 (the big phone jack style plug) is going to be backwards compatible with the fastest signal from the slowest device connected to that port.
