Yes I have my fire tv connected to it and works with no problems. I would think you could add a switch to it.

Please try again later.it should be used to connect to a switch if you need more ports. since most people don't have nor can they afford 10GB switches my thought is you have a 1 GB switch in which case this will use the full bandwidth that the switch is capable of using. the answer saying backwards compatible is odd since pretty much all network stuff that uses rj45 (the big phone jack style plug) is going to be backwards compatible with the fastest signal from the slowest device connected to that port.
