“I have a GT-AX11000 right now and need more range. If I purchase a GT-BE98 Pro, can I use my old router as a mesh node to extend the range? If I do that will I need two different networks or will my laptop auto switch seemlessly on its own when I move?”

You should be able to with the latest firmware versions. Sometimes you have to factory reset the router that is being used as a node.
