Note that I had to modify my yesterday answer to another similar question, and thus I need to edit this one too. It seems we are certain that the cheaper model with 6700S graphics does have 8 GB soldered plus an 8 GB stick, But whether that is also true of the more expensive model with 6800S graphics remains an open question as of the end of April. I just noticed that Best Buy web side actually states for both models that they are 8 GB soldered plus 8 GB stick. But we still don't know for sure if that is true on the more expensive model. Best Buy does a lot of copy-n-paste from one ad to another, and in so doing makes mistakes. To many of us, it makes much more sense to put 16 GB soldered plus an empty DDR5 slot on the more expensive model, since we definitely intend to upgrade it to 16 + 16 = 32 GB, and that would give us dual-channel 32 GB - which is the end goal for just about anybody who can afford the more expensive model, in our opintion. But we don't know for sure what Best Buy asked Asus to provide them. It might be that their web site is not a typo, and both models are limited to 8 GB or 16 GB or 24 GB, etc. If the latter is indeed the case for both models, then it appears you lose dual-channel on any memory upgrade for either model (unless dual-channel is somehow more foregiving in DDR5, a rumor I have not heard).

That has 8 GB soldered + an 8 GB DDR5 SODIMM stick that is dual-channel as sold => thus you break dual-channel by swapping out the 8 GB stick for a 16 GB stick or a 32 GB stick (which seems to be feasible per my research). On the other hand, if you are referring to the more costly model with the 6800S graphics, then we are pretty sure (some buyer, please confirm) that it comes with 16 GB soldered and an empty DIMM slot - and so is not dual-channel as sold. For that one (if our assumptions are correct), you can add a 16 GB matched stick to give the benefit of dual-channel and 32 GB total. Or you could probably go t 48 GB total, albeit not dual-channel. The suspicion is that answered questions might be shared among differing models, so you have to keep that in mind, lest you get the right answer to the right question about the wrong product.
