“When I plug the power cord into a standard household outlet, it blows the breaker whether it is plugged into the laptop or not. Anyone else have this issue?”

Possibly, too many devices are connected at the time, overloading the circiut of your household. Or, the particular outlet is bad. Try connecting the laptop to a surge protector, not directly to the wall or AC outlet.
