From what I understand, IPS (along with VA and TN) is a type of "panel technology" that falls under the LCD spectrum. The LED portion of the monitor is the "backlight technology". So, you can have an LCD monitor which comes with IPS panel technology and LED backlight.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.LED is the backlight technology. LCD is the type of panel. Older LCD displays used a cathode tube for backlight. The term LED generally is shorthand now, but the only true "LED" are OLED, but I don't believe those exist in PC world yet, just some limited TVs.
