No, not to the monitor. Just hook up speakers to the audio jack on the back of your computer. (Do realize that this monitor has speakers built-in so if you use external speakers you can turn off the internal speakers via the monitor setup app.)

Please try again later.To reply to the answer made by Aeroprof, I own the Asus MX279, and as long as the monitor has a headphone jack [which this one does], you can plug external speakers into the monitor. The integrated speakers are not always the best, so I recommend that you plug in your own.
