“Will the second 2.5HDD fit under the battery? I haven't seen anything definitive, except one you tube video where it is mentioned that you have to downgrade the battery to add a non M2 drive.”

Here’s a pic. It comes with a connection to add it. I don’t think you do anything with the battery. I added a second m.2 nvme. Haven’t done the 2.5 yet.
