SSD1 slot (the OS) does support v4 SSD's and runs at v4 speeds. I've done it and my C: drive has 7000MB/s read and 5800MB/s writes (using Nextorage 1TB drive). Keep in mind SSD1 has a metal shield over it with thermal pads contacting the SSD so it help cool the SSD. The SSD2 slot might support v4 but there is no practical way to apply thermal pads or heatsink to cool it. Stick with v3 SSD in that slot as it runs cooler than a v4.
