The laptop has two RAM slots. One, 8GB, is soldered to the MB and cannot be removed. There is second slot with another 8GB the module can be changed. ASUS states that second slot, by itself, can support up to a 16GB module bringing the total to 24GB. Some users have installed a 32GB module in the second slot to total 40GB with no issues but ASUS states that the second slot was spec'd, in the hardware, to only support 16GB. Your mileage may vary and it's up to you if you want to install a 32GB module for a total 40GB. ASUS reps tend provide ambiguous, meaning not fully explained, answers and tend not to elaborate so as not to confuse those who might not understand.
