This is more of a home office or light gaming monitor and I use this monitor in my home office. At work we use Nextiva software on dual 19" monitors with 1366 x 768 resolution for video surveillance. You may not be able to run this monitor at full hd (1080p) resolutionon a home security system, depending on your software and setup. Most video surveillance software runs better at lower resolutions. Good luck!
