Install the Kindle app from the Google Play store. Then sign in to your Amazon account in the Kindle app. You will then be able to download any of the Kindle books you bought. This works for any Android device - if you buy a book on the Kindle store, you can read it anywhere you can install the app, as well as on the Kindle tablets.

I can't imagine that Amazon's Kindle app for Fire tablets is more difficult than the Kindle Android App. It works great for watching videos and it has a front facing camera so there shouldn't be any issues with making Hangout or other video calls.
