“I installed this system and my only problem is my 2012 MacBook Pro somehow loses the connection and wants to use the internal ip of 169.254.xxxxx So far the only way to get the MacBook to get an ip from the router is to reboot it. Anyone else have this?”

It sounds like your Mac is defaulting to another network. Try going into Wi-Fi settings and ‘forget’ existing networks listed. Then when it asks, remember the new network.
