As long as the phone itself is not under any obligations i.e. tied to a AT&T Next or AT&T Next Every year contract that needs to be paid off; or has or had been reported stolen, you can buy and insert an AT&T prepaid sim card in that phone, since it is tied to AT&T via International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI). If the sim card works in that phone then you should have no problem using a prepaid card to fill the amount you desire.

I'd suggest that you call AT&T to verify, concerning buying prepaid cards. I'd be guessing that that would work for any AT &T phone but CALL THEM TO VERIFY. THEY ARE QUICK TO ANSWER CALLS. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT THE SIM CARDS, AGAIN CALL OR STOP INTO ANY AT&T STORE, IM SURE THEY CAN GIVE YOU A QUICK ANSWER. I FIND THEIR PEOPLE FAR MOVE PERSONABLE THEN VERIZON.
