“Will one of the phone units work in a basement when main base is located on main floor ?”

Probably, but no guarantee. Our base is on the first floor, and the other units work on the second floor even though we have plaster walls with a wire mesh backing (a Faraday cage). [I did not check our model number, but we did purchase an AT&T cordless phone earlier this month, and the store thinks we own the model in question.]
