“Can I talk on one handset, then have my husband pick up a different handset, so we cam both speak/listen at the same time? The answering phone I currently have won't let us use it that way. If I have a call & answer it, he can't hear or talk to whoever is on the line, unless I actually go downstairs & HAND him the handset - but THEN I CAN'T hear or talk to the person..”

Works for us to use two of the phnes on the same call.

If you are not very close by, Yes you can. Because if you are too close, you get distortion and feedback

Yes, you can use the intercom feature to share or transfer an outside call to another system handset. Once you share the other handset joins you on the outside call and can make a three-way conversation
