When I got mine, I added another line of service to my plan for $10/mo. Not sure if you can simply change the SIM card, but can't see why it wouldn't work. Hope that helps.

The plans costs $80 a month for up to 40GB of data usage plus $10 per gigabyte used thereafter. The same guy also has a smartphone on a grandfathered unlimited data plan with AT&T. In order to guard against surpassing the 40 m GB data limit for his hotspot plan and incurring additional charges, each day after he gets home from work he swaps the sim card in his phone with the one in his LTE router and has been doing so for months with no issues.
