“Does it require electricity to work? I.e., does it use a power cord in addition to being connected to the phone jack in the wall? Also, how long is the wire that connects to the phone jack? My phone jack is inconveniently place, so I need a longer wire.”

No it doesn't and you can get extra long cord for cheap

The line included with the phone is approximately 15 to 20 feet. I needed it located in a further away place, so I purchased a separate 50 foot line at Best Buy. It works perfectly.
