• you just get a new sim for data only to use with this device... then it will run on its own and yes you can use it with your phone.. just enable the wifi settings and look up the device in the available wifi signals and connect ... too easy. you have to just pick a wifi pre paid plan with whatever new carrier you use for this device.. I got mine at best buy and they set it all up for me for free too.

• From what I tested it supports several different brands of devices and no you don't already have to have internet at home
