The first part, yes you are correct. I believe it is there just for the Bluetooth capability. I can't answer your second question. Sorry
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Correct, the preamp is there to do some noise reduction and allow you to use a receiver that doesn't have a phono jack on it. It will not however run passive speakers. In order to use passive speakers you will need to connect it to an amplifier/receiver that would run the speakers. If you're looking for simplest connection with least amount of equipment, then you could look at a pair of powered bookshelf speakers that would connect either over bluetooth or RCA. You can however listen via headphones without an amp. You can't adjust the volume of course, but I find that the volume is just about right on a pair of wired non-powered headphones.
