Not when using the provided (AT-XP3) DJ Cartridge, no. If you were to change the stylus out to the same (AT-VMN95E) stylus that comes on the AT-LP120X-USB Turntable, it would be hard to tell them apart however. The LP120X-USB may be a bit more quiet due to the use of an external power supply, but it will not have the torque of the LP140XP. For DJ use, only the 140XP should be used.

Yes this is a better sounding turntable than the 120 because it does not have the built in pre-amp which causes hum and distortion. There is a mod to remove the pre-amp from the 120 and it only takes like 30 mins to do (Vids on google). I have the 140 and have about 100 hours on it. I have had no issues with pre-map noise, skating or motor speed. All of these things have been fixed on the 140 model.
