It depends on the application. Typically, this type microphone/boom arm bundle is used with a small format Mic/Line Mixer or an audio interface with a USB output for connecting to a computer for things like podcasting etc. The AT2020 Microphone (with XLR type output connector) requires 48 volts DC phantom power to operate. This power may be provided by the Mixer or interface it is to be used with. If the Mixer or interface does not provided phantom power, a phantom power supply will need to be installed between the microphone and the Mixer or interface.
