I have this hooked up in my 2008 Toyota Tundra, Factory JBL radio, works great, can handle a 400 watt input signal to convert to low level inputs for most to all amps.

This is in essence a $100 converter like back in the day with GameCube/PlayStation/etc having The little box that plugged into the coaxial port of the TV. An aftermarket would be the equivalent to a HDTV with HDMI. If your car isn’t controlled by a factory head y it (ie A/C run through touchscreen, etc) I’d say aftermarker as that allows a lot of flexibility In what you can do downstream.
