The vast majority of the sound travels from the source to the destination, align the arrow in that manner and don't worry about the reverse. BTW, you won't hurt anything, so its ok to flip it and do a sound check. Example, if you are feeding a soundbar from the TV and using hdmi, align the arrow as sending out of the tv and into the soundbar. If you are going from a DVD to a soundbar via HDMI, align out of the dvd and into the soundbar. It's always "into" the box that is making the "noise".

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You are correct on the arc ports, they can go in either direction. But a rule of thumb for me is that I always insert the arrow that's pointing towards the tip of the HDMI plug to the back of your TV and the other arrow goes to the source of where your video/audio is coming from. Hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The cable only fits into the plug one way, from my Roku box to soundbar (it's a pass through system) then to ARC on TV input #2 as per manufacturer. Check your TV specs for which one to use. I choose this method over the optical cable for the Dolby surround sound features. TV's will handle sound input different ways per the connection. You will get sound, but are you getting the Dolby surround sound? See how your TV handles the different connection types PCM is a default mode on many!
