You don't have to purchase that particular cable, but you will need a cable to make the connection. A better cable will give you better sound quality. Pearl is our entry level fiber optic cable. It's less than $30 for a 1.5 m. cable. It's a great "bang for the buck" model!

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Our two sound bars came with HDMI Cable for hooking up to the TV. Make sure yours comes with one. The Geek Squad tech who installed our TV and Sony sound bar recommended the optical cable. He advised that using only the HDMI can sometimes make the sound bar act up. I am glad I bought the optical cable as recommended. Both of our sound bars are connected with optical cables and they have never gone wonky on us. Tech said to use HDMI to set up and update the sound bar but use the optical cable for daily use.
