Hi George, I suspect you found your answer long-ago, but for the next user that has the same question... Typically external drive manufacturers label drives that require power to be provided by the USB connection as "portable" and external drives that come with a dedicated power supply simply exclude "portable" from the description or are listed as "desktop" models. It sounds like for your Hopper, you are in the market for a desktop external hard drive. Be well, G
