The charger automatically switches to trickle charge mode whenever the battery is full to keep it full without overcharging it. On my phone (Samsung Galaxy S20 FE), this is indicated on the screen by the "Fast Wireless Charging" message disappearing when the battery is full. Belkin's website also says it's safe to leave your phone on the charging pad overnight and for extended periods.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. That is how I use it. Your phone should be smart enough to decide when to stop taking a charge. I leave my phone on it all night and it is no warmer in the morning than it would have been if it was in my pocket. You don't state what phone you have, if your phone support multiple charging speeds, just set it at the slowest and you can rest easy knowing the charger can't damage anything. I use this on an iPhone 12 Pro and an Samsung Galaxy S20 5G, both in Otter Box defender cases. Both phones charge great all night.
