Of course you do. It is impossible to extend something you do not have. This product takes your already existing wireless network and amplifies it to areas with weaker coverage. It does not create internet from nothing.

We must assume you already have a wireless router and you want to connect to your network from a greater distance. You only need internet service if you want internet service. Most people today rarely use a computer without an internet connection. Without internet service you can still connect to other PCs, printers & other devices on your network wirelessly & you can use a range extender to allow you to connect wirelessly to your network from a greater distance.

This, and all range extenders extend your router signal. Your router connects to the internet. Yes, you need to pay for some type of ISP (Internet Service Provider) for any of these items to work.
