“Can this be set up so that when you put a phone into the wireless charger it also automatically connects to the speaker…for instance can I pair with it, put my phone in it at night and then in the morning expect that my alarm will play through the speaker”

Hello, Ben. No. You will have to manually connect your phone via Bluetooth.
