The iPad Air 2 is slightly thinner and lighter than the iPad Air. So, if you have an iPad Air it probably won't fit in the case. If your iPad has a touch ID fingerprint sensor then you have an iPad Air 2.

The best way to find out would be on the iPad go to Settings > General > About. Then scroll down and you will see a model number. Then type that model number into google and see if it says Air or Air 2.
