“I know what the USB-C to Ethernet adapter is but, I don’t know what the third port is next to the Ethernet port. What is the third port for? What’s the benefit, I’ve seen the same symbol with the solid line and dashed line on my Apple TV.”

Hi Ken. This port is intended for pass-through charging the connected USB-C device.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The symbol means constant voltage and ground, i.e., D.C. power supply. In this device, it's an input. I expect that you can use the adapter without a charging cable plugged in, since USB-C can supply power. I will check that when I get this device. I have not seen a spec on the power draw of the adapter itself, but obviously it will draw some power from your computer's battery if a charger is not plugged into the adapter (assuming, again, that the adapter can draw from the USB-C port on your computer).
